Party Party Party

Saturday we had Jonah's first birthday party. It was a huge success thanks to Jim and Sue and Leanna and all their help. So here is a crap load of pictures from Saturday:
We had a pool party and set up a bunch of play pools in the front yard and had this inflatable water slide for the big kids. They loved it and I am surprised that none of them got killed on it with as wild as they were.
This was Jonah's favorite present that he got. He played with it all day which was awesome. Now we just have to figure out a way to get it home so it can occupy him here.

By the time we got to opening presents he was so tired and pretty much cried the entire time. But he really loved all his presents after he was rested up so thank you everybody.

Here is his cute cake that I made him. I found an adorable cake pan at Michael's that makes huge cup cakes. They feed about 8 people and I made four of them and at the end of the party there was only one slice left. I think they were a hit.

Jonah just kinda stared at the cake when we put it in front of him. I finally put a scoop of frosting in his mouth but he really wasn't into it.

He was tired by this time and I think a little freaked out that everyone was staring and crowded around him watching.

Still not digging it.

A few hours later we tried again. Lisa held the cake up to his mouth and he finally got the idea and started to dig in.

Loving it!!!

He was grabbing handfuls of cake and sharing it with people. Such a sweet baby.

One of our friends got Jonah this awesome binky. It is freakin hilarious to see him crawl around with this thing in his mouth.

Finally the end of the night we put Jonah in his cute new monkey pajamas and went home. It was such a long but fun day. Thank you everyone how came and if this wasn't enough pictures for you you can check out my mother in laws blog http://agreatdayatgrandmas.blogspot.com.

Happy Birthday Jonah!!!

Today is my "little" mans birthday. He was born August 29, 2007 at 10:03 am and was 8 pounds 14 oz. When we took him to the doctors a few weeks ago I think he weighed in at 28 pounds 7 oz. I am not sure how tall he is but he is wearing 2T clothes now, though some 18 months still fit him. He has been such an easy baby (most of the time) and he is so fun. He loves to play with us especially in the mornings when we are all in bed together still. He loves giving "hugs" which consist of him coming up and pulling you towards him and putting his forehead on yours. He has recently started to test us by throwing little tantrums but he quickly realizes he isn't going to get his way and then he stops. He has also started hitting us when he wants something we have or are trying to give him something he doesn't want, which promptly gets him put in his bed. Other then that he is still a really good and easy going baby. We love him so much and are so glad he is in our family.

Keys and Other Randomness

The other day Joe was on the computer and he heard Jonah grab his keys off of our entry table so he goes out to see what Jonah is doing and see's Jonah trying to use the keys to get the front door open. He kept swing the keys and hitting the lock to try and get it open. It is just crazy that he put those two things together and realized that we use the keys to get the door open. He has also figured out how to turn his bath water on and off, how to turn the shower on from there and also how to turn the dishwasher on. It is crazy how fast he learns things. He just watches us and then goes back later to try it himself.

I took Jonah to his grandma and grandpa's the other day and I had given my sister in law Jonah's old swing for her baby. Well Jonah loves to swing it whether it is empty or has Caleb in it, so I decided to put him in it and he looked so huge. He kept grabbing on to the back legs and swinging himself in it. So just to show you how much he has grown in the past year here is a picture of him at about two weeks old in the same swing:

He was still a pretty big baby at two weeks but now we like to call him the giant baby. He still has the face of a baby but the body of a two year old.

This is my usual view when I am on the computer lately, he is right next to me and trying to grab the mouse out of my hand and push buttons on the key board.

And I just love this picture, he looks so sweet and innocent here. You would never expect that right after this he knocked almost everything off the table.

Warning: Very Long Post Ahead

So I have been wanting to write this down for awhile and since Jonah's first birthday is coming up on us pretty fast I thought now would be a good time. Jonah was born on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 10:03 am. He had some fluid in his lungs so they let me hold him for like a minute and then they whisked him off to the nursery to put him on oxygen. I ended up not seeing him again until about 5:00 that evening. (I am not complaining about this I know other people who have had far more traumatic experiences after the birth of their babies.) I also had a very high fever during labor so he was also on some antibiotics to make sure he didn't have any infections. They kept us at the hospital until Friday evening at 7:30 and told us that Jonah was slightly jaundiced and that we should take him out into the sun for about fifteen to twenty minutes a day for about a week and it would clear up on its own. So we went home and I put Jonah to sleep and noticed that his breathing was very wheezy I kept an eye on him until about one in the morning and by then his breathing was very labored so we decided to take him to the ER at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center. Which on a quick side note if you are ever in Casa Grande and are in need of a hospital don't go here, drive the 35 minutes to Chandler. This is not only my opinion but that of many health care professionals and the majority of people in CG. Any way luckily we did not have a long wait and were called back at about 1:30. They hooked Jonah up to the pulse/ oxygen monitor to keep in eye on his oxygen saturation levels. He need to stay above 90 but he kept dropping down to the 80's and sometimes the 70's. Every time it dropped below 92 it would sound an alarm. The nurses in the ER told us that if that happened to just press the button to make it stop. They wouldn't even check on Jonah to make sure he was okay. Someone finally came in and drew his blood around 2:30 am and they told us that they would have the results back in half an hour. Well an hour came and went and we hadn't heard anything and the whole time the alarm was going off on the monitor and no one ever came in to check on Jonah, they would just walk by out room and tell us to hit the reset button. The ER wasn't busy that night and at this point ALL the nurses were at there desk in the middle of the ER eating Ice Cream and gossiping (we could hear the since they were right outside our door). Finally Joe found the ER doctor (who a few months ago tried to rent an apartment from us) and asked her what was going on? She very rudely told Joe to get out of her face (even though he wasn't and had asked her politely) and then she walked out of the room. About an hour after that we still hadn't heard anything and Jonah's monitor was still going off every few minutes when the doctor finally walked by our room and said that they were admitting him and then kept on walking. She didn't even stop to tell us why they were admitting him or anything, we really had no idea what was going on. By this time I could not stop crying (I am not a crier but those post pregnancy hormones really kicked in). Around 6 am I called my grandma who was coming down to CG to help me out for the day to let her know that she didn't need to come after all because we were at the hospital. Well of course she still came down, which I am so glad that she did because she really made us both feel more calm and she helped out a lotdealing with the nurses. I think it was around 7:30 or 8:00 am that they finally told us that Jonah's bilirubin was at a level 18 which 15+ is considered toxic. They keep all babies in the hospital who have a count higher then 15 and don't release them until it is down to a 13. So they finally brought in the biliruben lights about a half hour later. This made me so mad that they waited so long to bring these because they should have known that he needed them at like 3 am which would have given him 5 hours more under the lights. They told us that they were getting a room ready in pediatrics for him and we should be able to be in there within an hour. Well by 11 am we still weren't in the room and I was so completely frustrated and totally exhausted that I made a few totally hysterical phone calls to my mom and Lisa and even my boss (I really could not stop crying for like 15 hours). I am not even sure that they could understand anything that I was saying, but thankfully they just listened to me. Finally they got us into a room at 5:30 that evening. We were so pissed that it took this long and the pediatric unit didn't even have that many kids in there so it wasn't like they didn't have a room available, the whole time we were waiting for the pediatrician on call that weekend to come to the hospital to admit him. I know this probably doesn't sound as traumatic as we felt it was at the time, but it was the staff in the ER that made us feel this way. None of them listened to us and the were all utterly rude and had no compassion. If someone had just taking the time to explain to us what was going on and what was taking so long it would have been a lot easier. I hope this doesn't come off as a pity me because that's not what this is about. I know that a lot of other people have had way worse experiences then us. It is just something I think we need to remember and be so glad that it only took him four extra days in the hospital to get better and now we have this amazing little guy in our lives that I hope we never take for granted. We Love You Jonah!!!

Me cuddling Jonah during one of his breaks from being under the lights.

Sue feeding Jonah with the nice splint on his arm that kept scratching up his face.

Joe cuddling Jonah. Doesn't he look so small there.

Happy Birthday Valerie

Today is my best friend Valerie's birthday. I have been lucky to have her as my friend since we were sophomore's in high school. She has always been such a positive influence on me and I know that even though we don't talk everyday that no matter what time of day or night I call her that she will be there for me, and I hope she knows that I would be there for her to. Anyway I am not going to get to sappy but I hope you have an awesome birthday, can't wait to go out on Monday Night. Oh and I totally stole this picture from your facebook page :)

So Jonah and I have a new game. You know when a kid is crawling or walking and you come up behind them and say "I am going to get you" and they try to run or crawl away faster and then you catch them and tickle them or love on them. Well I do that with Jonah except when I say "I am going to get you" he turns around and crawls straight towards me. Then I grab him and tickle him, blow raspberries on his belly and love on him. He has the cutest belly laugh, I love it. And it cracks me up that he comes to me and doesn't try to run away.

Whenever he sees me taking his picture he will stop what he is doing to come over and look at the picture on the screen. He will also stop whatever he is doing if he sees his picture on the computer or if he sees himself in a mirror. He is just a little conceited.

Jonah is now trying to open all the doors that we keep shut so he can't get in to stuff. It is scary that he can actually reach the door knob, I hope it takes him awhile to figure out how to turn it.

How???

Okay I know I have posted on Jonah's crazy sleeping positions before but I think this one takes the cake. This is how he fell asleep for his nap today. And check out the chubbiness of his legs. I just want to pinch them.

We went to Michael's the other night and the have those teeny tiny little carts and Jonah looked huge in them. Like the Giant Baby that he is, lol.

We also went to Rubio's that night and you can tell that he wasn't diggin the beans there. Actually I just love this picture, his eyes look so huge and his fake smile cracks me up!

A Day At The Museum

On Tuesday me and Lisa took Jonah and her two of her nephews to the AZ Museum for Youth in downtown Mesa. Jonah wasn't really to in to the exhibits so we only spent about ten minutes looking at that stuff, during which I think some dirty little girl infected Jonah with a nasty cold. After walking through the exhibits we went over to the play area and let the kids loose. They have a really cute area for kids under two and there was only one other kid in there and it was nice to let Jonah just play with out having to keep him out of stuff.

Jonah just hamming up up for the camera. Every time he saw me pull out the camera he would smile really big.

Jonah playing with the little girl. They kept following each other around the play area and then would sit and play together for a minute. It was fun to watch him interacting with another kid his age. The little girl kept giving Jonah toys and then taking them away from him and he never cried. It was pretty cute.

Jonah just looking cute and playing with a spiky ball.

Trying to climb the wall to get to the other side of the play area. I think he needs to learn to walk before he learns to climb, but try telling him that.

See this hole.

See the baby by the hole.

Now the baby's in the hole. Me and Lisa were talking and didn't see him fall in and all of a sudden he started whining and I looked down and he was stuck. Of course I had to take a picture before I got him out.

And they had mirrors in the play area which Jonah loved. He kept looking at himself and laughing. He really needs a hair cut in the back.

Right before I took this picture Jonah and this little girl were hugging and kissed each other. It was so cute but of course my camera didn't snap the picture in time.

Afterwards I took Jonah to play at his grandma and grandpas house for a little bit.

The poor baby also has another ear infection and a nasty cold which kept me and him up most of the night last night. He kept waking up in screaming holy terror and would start coughing so bad he would start gagging. I felt so bad for him. He seems to be doing better today but all he wanted to do last night was cuddle, which is rare for him these days.

I also got his birthday party all planned now. I am so proud of myself for not waiting until the last minute on it. It should be a pretty fun time.
